Back in mid-1996, a garden shed was constructed on the bank of a small river in West Berlin, Vermont. It seemed like a good idea at the time. Due to the pitch of the bank and erosion over the years, the structural integrity of the shed was severely compromised. The shed needed to be removed, but the owner had such a connection to the building and the site that he wanted to make sure removal was in keeping with the years of service and utility the garden shed had provided. He called ReBUILD’s Deconstruction Service and the crew came and carefully dismantled the one-inch barn board sheathing and simple framing. After the rafters were removed, the remaining framing was pulled off the bank by machine and deconstructed off site. The project took two days to complete and the materials retrieved for reuse included: lumber; corrugated tin roofing; and chain link fencing.
